Thursday it was announced that The Providence Foundation Executive Committee has hired Cliff Wood as its new executive director. For the past eight years, Cliff has served as our executive director here at the Downtown Providence Parks Conservancy, as well as director of advocacy for the Foundation. In addition to his new leadership role at the Foundation, Cliff will continue to lead the DPPC and help streamline efforts between these two organizations, who already work closely together.

After an extensive search that included applicants from all of the country, Cliff was chosen to take over the position previously held by Dan Baudouin for the past 24 years. The Providence Foundation is comprised of more than 140 of Rhode Island’s leading corporations and institutions and has a mission to create an environment conducive to growth and sustained investment. It aims to make Providence, particularly downtown, the premier mid-sized city in the country.

Ned Handy, chair of The Providence Foundation said, “We are excited about Cliff’s appointment as executive director and enthusiastic about his ability to lead this important organization forward into the next chapter. Cliff’s varied experience in building strong and vibrant communities, his vision for Providence and his ability to drive big ideas to the finish line will serve the Foundation well. I thank the search committee for their time and diligence and eagerly look forward to working with Cliff.”

Cliff’s passion for a better Providence is evident through the work he’s done. He spent time as a member of the Providence City Council, was the first-ever director of Providence’s Office of Arts, Culture and Tourism, and one of the co-creators of Sound Session. “I am thankful to the search committee for this opportunity and eager to begin as the executive director for an organization that has a legacy of building partnerships to accomplish positive and measurable change for Providence and the downtown. Creating a strong core for our capital city by building an attractive place both for business and community, readies Providence for growth and economic opportunity. I thank Dan Baudouin for his diligence, guidance and commitment to Providence and I look forward to leading this organization toward new and exciting opportunities.”

The entire team at the Downtown Providence Parks Conservancy could not be more proud of our fearless leader and good friend, Cliff Wood. It has been a joy working under his leadership, and we look forward to advancing this work as he takes on this new position.
